I am known amongst those closest to me to be a woman who loves to cook but also an extremely picky eater. It is these two things that led to this challenge.
With the help of my sister, I will cook every single one of the recipes from Allegra McEvedy's 'Around the World in 120 Recipes', aiming to do three recipes a week. Why this specific book you ask? Well, it's simple - we wanted adventurous and varying recipes and this book gets great reviews!!
Follow this blog and you will see how my tastes progress as I experiment and how we inspire our weekly menu. We're cooking each dish for a family of three adults and a toddler. Obviously some of the recipes won't necessarily be suitable for the toddler but we'll try and vary as many of them as possible so that she can enjoy the experiment too!
The whole household is looking forward to this challenge because, like many others, we have dug ourselves into a little bit of a food rut. With three working adults, all with their own favourite dishes, it becomes more and more difficult to come up with new and inventive dinners that aren't too time consuming to make.

So, challenge accepted! Lets see how this goes!

About Me and the Household

My name is Emily Wilson. I'm 27 years old and I live in Munich, Germany with my sister and her family. I've been here now for 4.5 years and I absolutely love this city, although I do miss the tastes of home from time to time. I grew up in Cheshire (UK) and so moving from the countryside to the city was quite a big shock.  On top of that, the food changes have been quite the challenge.  Bavarian's love their stews and schnitzel which is all well and good but they're not too good with the bacon and, famous as their bratwurst might be, I do miss English sausages! The difference in products in stores makes making our traditional recipes a little tricky but after 4.5 years, we pretty much have it down.  On our trips to the UK we pick up a mass amount of tea and suet but mostly we get by on what's available here.

So why this challenge?

I've never been  particularly adventurous, especially where food is concerned. I didn't enjoy trying new things and I would regularly say "I don't like that" of things I'd never tried. I did this for longer than I'm proud of but in the last couple of years I've been making a concerted effort to try new things - and to re-try things I was convinced I didn't like.  Now I'm excited to embark on a new food challenge.

As is my big sister, Soph.  What's in it for her? you might ask! Well, her main encouragement comes from the fact that we have found ourselves in a little bit of a food rut. Since we're relatively limited in time to cook with a one year old to watch, we have to be rather organized so we shop every Saturday and, in preparation for our weekly shop, we plan all of our meals for the week.  In the past month or so, we noticed that we've been repeatedly using the same recipes - not an uncommon issue I'm sure. So for Soph, this issue is not only about experimenting with new foods (she likes pretty much everything so it's not much of a challenge for her), it's about prooving that it is possible to work with an inventive weekly meal plan without too much extra effort.

Also involved in this challenge are my brother in law - as chief food critic, and my baby niece - as adorable co-chef/kitchen entertainer! Any recipes that are suitable will also have to pass the baby connaisseur test - although she takes after her parents and is not at all a picky eater so that's not much of a test :)

So that's our brief story - I hope you enjoy the blog!
