I am known amongst those closest to me to be a woman who loves to cook but also an extremely picky eater. It is these two things that led to this challenge.
With the help of my sister, I will cook every single one of the recipes from Allegra McEvedy's 'Around the World in 120 Recipes', aiming to do three recipes a week. Why this specific book you ask? Well, it's simple - we wanted adventurous and varying recipes and this book gets great reviews!!
Follow this blog and you will see how my tastes progress as I experiment and how we inspire our weekly menu. We're cooking each dish for a family of three adults and a toddler. Obviously some of the recipes won't necessarily be suitable for the toddler but we'll try and vary as many of them as possible so that she can enjoy the experiment too!
The whole household is looking forward to this challenge because, like many others, we have dug ourselves into a little bit of a food rut. With three working adults, all with their own favourite dishes, it becomes more and more difficult to come up with new and inventive dinners that aren't too time consuming to make.

So, challenge accepted! Lets see how this goes!

Blood Orange Margarita (Cuba & the Caribbean)

This sounded like a great drink to me. As far as I'm concerned you can't really go wrong with tequilla.  Cointreau, on the other hand, is something I've never really developed a taste for.  I remember going on a class trip to the Cointreau factory when I was about 12 on the French exchange and buying a bottle of it for my dad and, until it was time for this recipe, that was the only bottle of the stuff I ever bought.

As with most drink recipes, this one's quite simple - mix and pour.

It does do a salt and sugar mix to put on the rims of the glasses which was quite fun to do. Having never really worked behind a bar I'd never really done this before so now I can check off one more new task.

We were hoping to enjoy these cocktails on a nice sunny evening on our balcony.  Unfortunately, while it was nice and sunny, I can't say we were really enjoying these drinks.  They were far too strong for us. So strong that they were very hard to drink and Soph actually gave up on hers after about 5 or so sips.  I persevered, adding more blood orange juice after every gulp and eventually I got a drink I could enjoy - but this took a fair while.

The mix of ingredients itself was very nice and we would probably do it again but I'd say we'd probably double the amount of juice in it and half the amount of alcohol.  Although perhaps instead I'll give this bottle of Cointreau to my dad aswell since he liked the last one.
