I am known amongst those closest to me to be a woman who loves to cook but also an extremely picky eater. It is these two things that led to this challenge.
With the help of my sister, I will cook every single one of the recipes from Allegra McEvedy's 'Around the World in 120 Recipes', aiming to do three recipes a week. Why this specific book you ask? Well, it's simple - we wanted adventurous and varying recipes and this book gets great reviews!!
Follow this blog and you will see how my tastes progress as I experiment and how we inspire our weekly menu. We're cooking each dish for a family of three adults and a toddler. Obviously some of the recipes won't necessarily be suitable for the toddler but we'll try and vary as many of them as possible so that she can enjoy the experiment too!
The whole household is looking forward to this challenge because, like many others, we have dug ourselves into a little bit of a food rut. With three working adults, all with their own favourite dishes, it becomes more and more difficult to come up with new and inventive dinners that aren't too time consuming to make.

So, challenge accepted! Lets see how this goes!

Coban Salata (Turkey)

At first glace, this appeared to be a simple, quick and easy salad to whip up as a side dish. Nothing too daunting when you look at the pictures.  But, then I read the ingredients. The recipe calls for two chillis and a whole bunch of olives.  Neither of these are things that would ever be found in my kitchen.  Luckily, both are readily available in my sister's.

So after some vigorous chopping (on Soph's part) this salad came together in a little under 15 minutes and we tucked into it with some pizza.

I have to say, I couldn't taste the chilli at all - a fact which I am very glad of.  The olives on the other hand, were there in force and, after re-trying them, I still don't like them at all. Something about the texture and the taste and the overall oliveness of them - anyway - not for me.

Soph and my brother-in-law on the other hand both absolutely loved it and, if it weren't for the olives and fear of impending chilli, I would have found it quite delicious.

What was great about it was that it was so simple and fast to make. Now, looking at the photos, you might think that it's an obvious thing to do - chop up a bunch of vegetables, crumble on some cheese, and pour over some dressing.  But, the best thing about this salad was actually that it didn't actually have a dressing (as such), just a little oil and some herbs, but it tasted as though it did.

I think it's one we'll definitely repeat, although we'll probably add the olives and chillis after we put aside a portion for me.
