I am known amongst those closest to me to be a woman who loves to cook but also an extremely picky eater. It is these two things that led to this challenge.
With the help of my sister, I will cook every single one of the recipes from Allegra McEvedy's 'Around the World in 120 Recipes', aiming to do three recipes a week. Why this specific book you ask? Well, it's simple - we wanted adventurous and varying recipes and this book gets great reviews!!
Follow this blog and you will see how my tastes progress as I experiment and how we inspire our weekly menu. We're cooking each dish for a family of three adults and a toddler. Obviously some of the recipes won't necessarily be suitable for the toddler but we'll try and vary as many of them as possible so that she can enjoy the experiment too!
The whole household is looking forward to this challenge because, like many others, we have dug ourselves into a little bit of a food rut. With three working adults, all with their own favourite dishes, it becomes more and more difficult to come up with new and inventive dinners that aren't too time consuming to make.

So, challenge accepted! Lets see how this goes!

Lemon Iced Tea Lollies (Malawi)

We're English! So we do love our tea.  But, we are firm believers that tea should be drunk hot, with milk and (if you absolutely have to add it) sugar.  Not cold, or iced, and with lemon.

When I mentioned this recipe to my American friends they all said this sounded delicious.  Soph and I, on the other hand, we're not overly thrilled with the idea of having to taste these lollies.

Anyone who has made ice lollies before will know the drill but, basically, you mix the ingredients together, pour the mixture into lolly moulds, and leave it in the freezer for what feels like an eternity but turns out to actually be about 5 or 7 hours.

With this recipe, step one is to put looseleaf tea into water and leave it over night to infuse.  This infusion then gets sugar and lemon juice added to it before freezing.

Thanks to a good friend of mine, we found amazing new ice lolly moulds for this recipe. They collect the melted lolly in the bottom and have little straws for you to drink the liquid from. They are really useful and work perfectly.

As expected, we were not so impressed with the outcome of this recipe.  It did in fact tasted just like frozen black tea . not really our cup of tea.  But, if you like iced tea, I'm sure you'd like these and I imagine they'd be quite refreshing on a warm summer's day. I think we'll stick with the helles (beer).
